What's next in plastic surgery — October 16, 2026
This edition covers what is coming in plastic surgery between mid-October 2026 and mid-April 2027. We include only milestones with a date confirmed in an official or primary source. This selection includes 3: one regulatory deadline and two meetings. This edition's search identified no regulatory decisions, trial readouts or guidelines with a confirmed date in this window; if any appear, we will add them.
1. Public comment closes on the breast implant patient decision checklist
[Guideline in preparation] [USA] [Confirmed date: December 1, 2026]
What it is: On September 29, 2026, the Breast Surgery Collaborative Community (BSCC) submitted to the FDA public docket (FDA-2019-D-4467) a shorter, revised version of the "Breast Implant Patient Decision Checklist", the document reviewed with patients before they receive breast implants, which complements, and does not replace, informed consent. Comments are accepted until December 1, 2026.
What problem it solves: According to the BSCC, it aims for a shorter, clearer checklist that is practical in clinic and supports shared decision-making between patient and surgeon. Today the current version is used and remains in force.
Critical take: This is a proposal under consultation, not an FDA decision; after December 1 there is no known date for a final version, and the final text may change or not be adopted.

2. IMCAS World Congress 2027
[Congress] [France (Paris)] [Confirmed date: January 28–30, 2027]
What it is: IMCAS's international congress, in hybrid format (Paris and online).
What problem it solves: It brings plastic surgery, dermatology and aging science together in one forum and offers a look at techniques and products before they reach the journals.
Critical take: We did not verify the detailed program; whatever is presented should be assessed once there is a peer-reviewed publication with conflicts of interest declared.

3. The Aesthetic MEET 2027 (The Aesthetic Society)
[Congress] [USA (Miami Beach)] [Confirmed date: April 15–18, 2027]
What it is: The annual meeting of The Aesthetic Society, with The Aesthetic Foundation, at the Miami Beach Convention Center (exhibits April 16–18).
What problem it solves: It is the annual meeting of the US aesthetic surgery society and a point of update on surgical and nonsurgical techniques.
Critical take: The full program and faculty are not yet published; we do not anticipate content.
