About us and how we work

MedBulletins is a clinical update project for healthcare professionals, started in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. It is curated by Aura Celeste, with the help of artificial intelligence.

What we publish

One bulletin per specialty (weekly for vascular surgery, monthly for the others), in Spanish and English, with full text and an audio newscast of about five minutes. Each issue covers what was published or presented during the stated period: clinical trials, meta-analyses, practice guidelines, regulatory approvals and recalls, and meeting news.

How we select and verify

  • We search journals, scientific societies, regulators (FDA, EMA and others) and meetings worldwide, including sources in languages other than English.
  • Only items from the period covered are included. Exception: an item up to 35 days old may be included when its importance justifies it, and it is then labeled "Outside the period" with its date.
  • Every figure is checked against its source before inclusion; if the date or the number cannot be confirmed, the item is left out.
  • For regulatory decisions we link, when available, the official communication from the regulator or the manufacturer, in addition to medical press coverage.
  • Each item carries a critical reading: study design, sample size, funding and manufacturer conflicts of interest, and whether it changes practice.
  • When we cannot access the full text and rely on an abstract or medical press coverage, we say so in the item itself.
  • We would rather publish fewer items than pad a slow month.
  • Before publication, every issue goes through an independent verification that checks each figure, date and population against its source; anything that cannot be confirmed is withdrawn or explicitly attributed.

Use of artificial intelligence

Searching, the first draft, the translation and the audio voice are prepared with the help of artificial intelligence tools, following the editorial criteria on this page. Artificial intelligence can make mistakes: that is why every item links to its source, and we ask readers to check the original before making clinical decisions.

Corrections

If you spot an error, write to julioe.castillomercedes@gmail.com. We correct the text, the Spanish edition and, when needed, the audio, and we log it here.

  • October 8, 2026. Full review of all 33 issues published to date, item by item, against their original sources. Figures, dates and misattributed populations were corrected; items outside the period were labeled; official links were added for regulatory decisions; and unsupported claims were toned down (for example, superlatives such as "the first" or "the largest" that the source does not support). Twelve items whose core data could not be confirmed in any accessible source were withdrawn: gastroenterology, September 28 (4); nephrology, September 29 (3); and one in each of these issues: OB/GYN, October 1; pediatrics, September 18 and September 28; urology, September 29; and vascular, September 28. From today, no bulletin is published without first passing that same verification.
  • October 8, 2026. Cardiology, October 1: AIR-STEMI was presented on August 29, not 30. Vascular, September 7: the XplantR De Novo authorization is dated April 17, not 29; and the DEEPER REVEAL figures refer to vessels of 2.5 mm or more and to the paired wound analysis, not to all 130 patients.
  • October 8, 2026. Nephrology, October 8: official sources added for the regulatory items (Bayer, PMDA, Genentech) and the September 3 xenotransplant item labeled as outside the period.
  • October 8, 2026. Vascular, October 5: for the C-TRACT trial we clarified that major bleeding (4.1% vs 2.0%) did not differ between groups according to the source, and that quality of life was analyzed in the first 197 of 225 patients. Pediatrics, October 6: we qualified the local applicability of the new AAP urinary tract infection guideline. Whole site: links whose addresses contained parentheses were repaired.
